To calculate a dilution, divide the vessel volume by the ratio plus one. For 1:64 in a 5 L bucket: 5 000 ml ÷ 65 = 76.9 ml of concentrate, plus 4 923.1 ml of water. Equivalent to 1.54 % v/v. For molarity, use C₁V₁=C₂V₂: pipette (C₂ × V₂) ÷ C₁ of stock, top up with diluent to V₂. For a 10-fold serial dilution, transfer 1 ml into 9 ml of diluent at each step.
